Introduction:

The purpose of this learning materials is to teaching international students how to apply the OPT (Optional Practical training) and get a SSN (Social Security Number). 

OPT is important to international students who want to get working experience in Unite State. The OPT (Optional Practical Training) means temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. According to the Rules established by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), international students can’t work in America unless the students are working for their school. International students can apply for OPT within 90 days before graduation and 60 days after. After the students successful applies for OPT, the USCIS will mail the EAD (Employment Authorization Document) card to students. Then, students can use the EAD card to apply for a SSN (Social Security Number).
